New collection for pre-order: THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF EVERYTHING

Hi all,

I hope we can get some advance copies at the August residency, but if not, my latest collection of short fiction, The People’s Republic of Everything, is now up for pre-order in the usual places: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, IndieBound, and the like. The ebook editions can be ordered, DRM-free, direct from publisher Tachyon Publications. And here’s the cover:

The book includes the preferred text of my 2007 short novel Under My Roof, as well a short fiction that originally appeared in Asimov’s Science Fiction, Nightmare Magazine, and anthologies including West Coast Crime Wave and Supernatural Noir, two pieces never before in print, and assortment of my work from the past eight years or so.

Short fiction is making a bit of a comeback, thanks partially to wonderful collections like Carmen Maria Machado’s Her Body and Other Parties, China Mieville’s Three Moments of an Explosion and Sherlock Holmes-themed The Whole Art of Detection by Lyndsay Faye, to name three fantasy/mystery collections that have actually been published by real publishers and are stocked in real bookstores. (We’ll talk more about these distinctions in August.)

If you’re interested in short fiction, regardless of genre, let’s chat at residency!
