Hayden Receives Fellowship

In response to the Ta-Nahisi Coates testament to perseverance Brian posted in the previous blog, let me share that last year I applied for a BMI Foundation Fellowship and didn’t get it. I reapplied this year with a more focused letter of application and proposal, and  was named a 2016 recipient of the 11th Annual BMI Woody Guthrie Fellowship in the spring. I’m at the Woody Guthrie Archives in Tulsa, OK this week thanks to the fellowship which is supporting continued research for my forthcoming biography examining the humanitarian work and personal life of Marjorie Guthrie, former Martha Graham dancer, health advocate, and wife of Woody Guthrie.

Point is: Keep at whatever you’re experiencing your ups and downs with.
