Ten Terrible Mothers & Fathers – Character Studies

Fathers get a lot of flack but mothers can also be dark and dangerous. Here’s ten mothers and ten fathers in literature who I’m sure their children would prefer to forget.

My pick for notorious mothers is Mrs. Lisbon in the Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.

Ten Terrible Mothers  (Electric Literature)

For fathers – Alexander Zalachenko in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Series by Steig Larsson.

Ten Terrible Fathers  (Electric Literature)

Not on the list but a huge influence in Kafka’s writing (one of my favorite writers) – his own sociopathic, narcisscistic father, whom he exposes in his “Letter to My Father.”  (Brain Pickings)
