Tuesday is book release day, and indeed a book by me was released today. Hanzai Japan, an anthology of science fictional and fantastical crime stories from and about Japan, co-edited by me and Masumi Washington, is out now. It looks good, if I do say so myself:
The book includes stories by straight ahead mystery/crime writers including S. J. Rozan, Ray Banks, and Naomi Hirahara; science fiction/fantasy regulars such as Carrie Vaughn and Genevieve Valentine; and cross-genre writers Jeff Somers and Brian Evenson. The pre-reviews have been excellent so far, and I hope some of you check it out, especially if you are interested in the state of short genre fiction, which is undergoing a bit of a boomlet thanks to the popularity of theme anthologies. I almost always assign my novelist-students a short story to write, as except for story quality, there are few obstacles to being published. Don’t need an agent, or a track record.
Read and write!
