Attention New Students: AWP Account Invitations!

I have added all new students to the MFA program’s AWP account. For new students unfamiliar with the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) website, I’ll include a quote from their about section:

AWP provides support, advocacy, resources, and community to nearly 50,000 writers, 500 college and university creative writing programs, and 125 writers’ conferences and centers. Our mission is to foster literary achievement, advance the art of writing as essential to a good education, and serve the makers, teachers, students, and readers of contemporary writing.

The AWP website has a number of great resources available to members. There are articles on writing, writing programs, career advice, and other related topics. There is a search feature for job listings available to members only. In addition, the AWP publishes The Writer’s Chronicle six times throughout the academic year. If you’re local to campus you can always come by and pick up a physical copy of the magazine in the MFA or Writing Department offices. Otherwise the articles and interviews are available online to AWP members.

Membership is free to all students in the MFA program. The invitations should have been sent out to your WCSU email accounts, so please check there and follow instructions for accepting the invitation and logging in to the AWP website. If you have any questions about the website or have not received your invitation, please send me an email at

P.S. I should also mention that the AWP website has listings for writing conferences and contests as well. As I said above, there are a TON of resources available to you as an AWP member.
