Closing Event of Residency

Folks, I’m pleased to announce that, back by popular demand, the Second Annual MFA Poker Tournament will cap off our residency week. Thursday evening (August 7) at 7:30 at the Maron, there will be a poker tournament fundraiser with all proceeds going to the MFA Scholarship fund. These funds will go toward our new First Residency Scholarships to promising incoming students ($1000 each).

The event is open to friends, family, significant others, etc., so please feel free to bring guests! The tax-deductible donation is $20, though we certainly welcome larger donations and greatly appreciate those of you who made larger donations last year.

Last year we had about 30 players and raised about $1200, more than enough for one scholarship. Let’s try to get even more players this year! Alumni and faculty–please join us!

For those of you who are beginners or near-beginners unfamiliar with Texas Hold ’em, we will have designated tables for you, so you will play with players of similar skill level (at least until we get down to the final table). There will also be a half-hour Texas Hold ’em lesson from 7:00-7:30 for those who need a little orientation on the rules.

Hope to see you there!

p.s. There are no cash payouts, but there will be many prizes and the pride of being able to claim the MFA Poetry Championship, of course.

If someone wants to write a check to have better accounting for tax purposes, who should it be made out to?

Good question, Brian. Checks can be made out to WCSU Foundation, and we will be taking down everyone’s name with donation amount so that the foundation can send you an acknowledgment of your contribution.

  4. Good luck everyone. Sorry I’m not there to win, but then again, you are all winners by attending.
